Is Jesus Still in the Foot Washing Business?

November 28, 2021

Throughout history, scholars have questioned the reason Jesus washed the disciples' feet. Many dismiss the spiritual significance with explanations of human error on the part of the building owner. Dr. McGee answers these questions with a real and raw message that requires us to respond to this gentle act just like the disciples did.

Get ready to fight the good fight against legalism in Galatians. When this letter was written, it defended the gospel of Christ from people who wanted to reduce it to rules. Not surprising, Galatians has provided the backbone for several great spiritual revivals around the world. Freedom, we learn, is a serious fight. Allow grace to revolutionize your own life through these seven lessons from Dr. J. Vernon McGee.

One of the most significant relationships a son can have is with his father, for it is by the father’s influence that a boy grows up to be a man. But what is a father to do when a crisis comes to his son’s life?

Going to the hospital is generally not a pleasant event, but would a visit from the Lord Jesus make your stay more enjoyable? It did for one man as Jesus found him by the pool of Bethesda.

God loves sinners, but He absolutely hates sin. Dr. McGee shows that while many in the world describe Jesus as meek and mild, incapable of hatred and anger, a close and careful examination of the Gospels reveals our Lord's intense and passionate hatred of evil.

To be a leper was to live a life of solitude and suffering with little or no human contact. That is, until Jesus reached out with care and concern to touch a leper who desired to be healed.

Why did Jesus come to this world? The answer is two-fold: His primary purpose was to redeem man; His second purpose was to reveal God. We see both of these purposes at work when Jesus attended a wedding.

Credit itself is not good or bad; it’s a tool you can control for good or which can control you when the debt becomes too overwhelming. Paul uses another kind of credit when dealing with reconciliation between a slave and his master.

(Galatians 5:16) As children we eventually learn how to walk on our own, but as Christians we need to learn to walk with the assistance of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Dr. McGee provides us with a clear understanding of how we can live this Christian life in the power of the Spirit.

About Dr. J. Vernon McGee

John Vernon McGee was born in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1904. Dr. McGee remarked, "When I was born and the doctor gave me the customary whack, my mother said that I let out a yell that could be heard on all four borders of Texas!" His Creator well knew that he would need a powerful voice to deliver a powerful message.

After completing his education (including a Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary), he and his wife came west, settling in Pasadena, California. Dr. McGee's greatest pastorate was at the historic Church of the Open Door in downtown Los Angeles, where he served from 1949 to 1970.

He began teaching Thru the Bible in 1967. After retiring from the pastorate, he set up radio headquarters in Pasadena, and the radio ministry expanded rapidly. Listeners never seem to tire of Dr. McGee's unique brand of rubber-meets-the-road teaching, or his passion for teaching the whole Word of God.

On the morning of December 1, 1988, Dr. McGee fell asleep in his chair and quietly passed into the presence of his Savior.
