Official Average Boy Podcast #63

March 18, 2022

When Bob’s new book, Average Boy’s Above-Average Year, comes out, he can’t help but be excited about sharing it with his friends. But he didn’t expect them to play a prank on him! Between the librarian telling him to hush to his classmates checking out other books, Average Boy feels pretty sad. When his friends come through, though, his frown turns upside down as he realizes they are just playing with him. He also answers an important question about being a Christian, even when you don’t feel like it.

Bob and his brother, Brian, get in a pre-Easter power struggle about who can hang out in the garage. As the older brother, Bob tries to be the bigger man. He also discovers that jumping on a pogo stick isn’t hard, unless you care about your body or owning nice things. In the end, Bob manages to mend his relationship with Brian—which is more than can be done for the Easter eggs that may or may not have been broken. This veggie tale digs into an epic gardening adventure. Will Bob’s science teacher get the “dirt” on what really happens to the seeds planted in Mr. Polvado’s backyard? Will Bob ever figure out what happens to his baby carrots? These questions and more—including Bob and Jesse’s favorite Australian animals—find answers in time for a harvest of fun. In this monumental, momentous 60th podcast, a furry, masked substitute teacher visits Bob's music class. Okay, actually Bob lets a racoon into the classroom. When Mrs. Brown returns and greets the ring-tailed intruder, she asks who's responsible ... and Bob knows exactly what to do. Speaking of knowing what to do, a listener wants to know what to do after seeing someone in her class steal something. Bob explains the joys of Mrs. Fox's cookie mitten – an ooey, gooey cookie that comes out of the oven and oozes into a person's hand in a mitten of deliciousness. Mmmm. Go get the milk! Then hear how AB's bike ride with a big box of Christmas goodies goes downhill ... literally. Fortunately when Bob admits his misfortune, Mrs. Fox surprises him with her response. Jesse and Bob also answer a question from a listener who lives on a duck farm. Their answer and Jesse's joke are certain to quack, er, crack you up! Bob falls asleep in school. That's the bad news. The good news is that he decides to change his habits so he can get more rest! (OK, the truth is ... his dad helps him see there's a time for everything.) With all of his renewed energy, Bob wrangles some chickens, dominates his homework and comes up with a great answer to a listener who asks, "How do we know Jesus is with us when we don't even see Him?" After this action-packed podcast, Bob takes some well-deserved rest. When Bob visits a flea market and spots a metal shake plate, he learns an important lesson. And it's not – Shake plates make your vision blurry. Eventually, Bob clearly sees that listening to his parents always keeps him safe. Speaking of avoiding danger, Jesse and Bob discuss talking to birds and answer a listener question about social media.See the final cover for the "Average Boy" book, "Average Boy's Above-Average Year": https://www.focusonthefamily.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/ABAboveAverageYear_salescover.pdfParents, if you've listened to any of our podcasts, please give us your feedback: https://focusonthefamily.com/podcastsurvey/

Bob’s first day of school – and this podcast – don't go as planned. The bus is early, the students look huge and there's a new bus driver. But that's not the biggest surprise! In the end, Bob finds out smartphones can't rescue us. Family and God are way better. Bees are also good, and they're always buzzzzy. Ha! What is the deal with Jesse and bees? That question may be answered, too.Parents, if you've listened to any of our podcasts, please give us your feedback: https://focusonthefamily.com/podcastsurvey/

Past failures can lead to future success. That's what Bob has discovered. By learning to let go of past flops and flips (did we mention there's waterskiing in this podcast), Bob doesn’t quit and eventually achieves victory. Bob and Jesse discuss how past failures shouldn't stop us from trying new things ... or growing closer to Jesus. Failure is part of life. Instead of being an end, we should see it as a new beginning. If you've listened to any of our podcasts, please give us your feedback: http://focusonthefamily.com/podcastsurvey

Eating carrots is healthy, so is having a positive attitude in difficult situations. When Bob goes to Camp Last Resort, he quickly realizes the word “resort” is a bit of a stretch. Instead of letting a moss-filled swimming pool ruin his camp experience, Bob chooses to be positive. He also learns that gravity doesn’t work too well on him. And don’t miss Bob’s response to a listener who has a problem of “getting way too mad.”Get a sneak peak of the "Average Boy" book cover: https://www.focusonthefamily.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/AB-sketch.pdfIf you've listened to any of our podcasts, please give us your feedback: http://focusonthefamily.com/podcastsurvey

Bob takes piano lessons . . . make that lesson. But he keeps practicing, because that’s the only way he’ll become a famous musician. Bob’s parents and neighbors are so moved by his musical abilities that they move the piano to the barn—right next to his drums. In the end, Bob discovers having people who encourage developing your talents is super important. He also finds out that Jesse knows a lot of jokes about sea life.
