A Reason to Live

April 18, 2024

Want to believe our lives have purpose?  Many years ago the Apostle Peter wrote a book about the Life driven by purpose.  You don’t discover the meaning of your life looking within yourself or indulging in pleasure.  You must begin with God, your creator.  You were made by God and for God.  And until we understand this, life doesn’t make sense…  We were made to last forever!

This series of messages, taken from the Bible’s book of 1 Peter, is entitled “Finding Your Way in a “Whatever” World.  And the series was shared by Bob Russell during his 40-year ministry with Southeast Christian Church.  Southeast, one of the largest churches in America is located in Louisville, Kentucky.

So, trying to get a fix on the meaning, the purpose of life:  Here’s Bob Russell with a lesson on God’s eternal purpose for our lives; more than just a reason to get out of bed in the morning, our ultimate reason for living, our reason for “Hope”!

There's more to the Christian life, than many “believers” are experiencing. Some folks are just satisfied with being “saved”, but, according to this month’s speaker, Bob Russell; salvation is much more than just an “eternal fire insurance policy”. In fact, the apostle Peter contends in his book of 1 Peter; It isn't just about getting to heaven it’s about getting heaven into you. So, ready to dig a little deeper?  …here’s Bob with 3 areas where deepening our spiritual roots can lead us to the abundant life that God wants to give us…

What’ your support system when life falls apart?  What keeps you going when life gets desperate?  This month our teacher, Bob Russell unpacks a letter of hope written to people living in times of despair.    This series of messages, taken from the Bible’s book of 1 Peter, is entitled “Finding Your Way in a “Whatever” World.  And the series was shared by Bob Russell during his 40 year ministry with Southeast Christian Church.  Southeast, one of the largest churches in America is located in Louisville, Kentucky.    In today’s message from First Peter 1, the Apostle Peter opens his letter writing about the Christians ultimate hope in Christ.  Peter contends followers of Christ are strangers in this world, citizens of another country, an eternal country and as such a Christian’s roots shouldn’t be too deep in this world.   So, with 5 reasons for being positive and hopeful in a spiritually indifferent world.  Here’s Bob Russell…

In today’s message, our speaker, Rick Atchley says: “We live in a world where the assumption is death has the final word.  Death does not care how much money you make; death doesn’t care your ethnicity or your politics.  Death doesn’t care how many pills you pop, how many surgeries you have, or how many toys you buy.  Death is never going to do what you say, because death does not listen to you.”  Today Rick, lead pastor with The Hills Church and their multiple campuses, concludes his series of messages: “It is Good to Hear Your Voice” with his lesson entitled “The Final Word”.    So, death doesn’t’ listen to us but the first thing Easter declares is, Jesus has the last word... the Final word over death!  With an incredible message of hope with a capital H, here’s Rick…

There is a lot of noise out there!  Years ago, before the age of GPS, pilots used radio beacons to navigate to some airports.  After a long flight when I would dial up my home airport’s beacon; that familiar sound of dots and dashes meant I could just follow that beacon home.  Jesus said in the Bible’s book of John, “My sheep listen to my voice, and they follow me.”  No matter what, we can follow that familiar sound of Jesus’s voice through the clutter knowing His voice leads home!   This month Rick Atchley, lead minister with The Hills Church and her multiple campuses, is leading us in a series of messages that helps us to the right beacon, the right voice: “It is Good to Hear Your Voice”.  And in today’s message; “God’s Voice Can Be Recognized”,   So, here’s Rick with insight on how we can identity the familiar sound of God’s voice leading home.

Have you ever thought about how in this world we are bound by rules?  Rules of physics, rules of order, rules of law.  Have you ever considered how belief in God, in Jesus His Son, belief in heaven, in eternity is totally outside all of those rules of reality?  So, God speaking to us is truly out of the box thinking!   This month Rick Atchley, lead minister with The Hills Church and her multiple campuses, is leading us in a series of messages that demand “out of the box” thinking: “It is Good to Hear Your Voice”.  In fact, in today’s message; “God Makes Surprise Announcements”, Rick unpacks how God want you to hear from Him because you are dear to Him.     So with a whole new realm of possibilities for a life that touches the “Supernatural” when God speaks to us, here’s Rick….

There’s a story in the Bible’s book of Numbers about a prophet of God, Balaam, who was turning a deaf ear to God’s wishes, even to the point of not seeing God’s angel.  So, to get his attention God took extreme measures and spoke through his Donkey to open Balaam’s eyes and ears.  While God may not regularly use animals, He does use many “languages” to communicate His will for us.   This month Rick Atchley, lead minister with “The Hills Church” and their multiple campuses, is leading us in a series of messages: “It is Good to Hear Your Voice”.  Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice, and they follow me.”  Rick’s premise through this series is: Faithful following requires careful listening, and careful listening requires intention and training.   As I understand it, one of the jobs of a hearing-aid is to reduce the background noise and give emphasis to voices needing to be heard.   So… here’s Rick with a spiritual “hearing-aid” of sorts…

So, here’s a question for you:  Will you continue to call or text someone who “ghosts you?  Will you continue to try to build a relationship with someone that never responds when you reach out?    This month Rick Atchley, lead minister with The Hills Church and her multiple campuses, is leading us in a series of messages: “It is Good to Hear Your Voice”.  Rick’s premise through this series is: the Christian Life is a dynamic relationship with a personal savior, if it is not, it will not thrive.  Hearing God’s voice is normal and critical to discipleship.    Jesus said: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27, however, so often, we choose to let the ambient noise of our lives drown out the “Voice of God.”  Getting better at hearing Jesus has to be imperative to us.  We must intend to improve our hearing!   So, with a hearing test with eternal implications, here’s Rick Atchley…

Love and War, Light and Darkness, Assurance and Conviction these are all great contrasts that could describe the Apostle John’s writing in the Bible’s book of 1st John.  If you have read John’s writings you might have noticed that while he focuses a lot on “Love”, he also writes of contrasts, such as these.   This month, Aaron Brockett, lead minister with Trader’s Point Christian Church in Indianapolis, Indiana will be helping us wrap our hearts and heads around the contrasts of 1st John.    My granddaughter and I have a little word game we play.  We will ask each other; “are you sure?”, “are you really sure?”, “are you absolutely sure?” In today’s message Aaron unpacks how John helps us answer the eternal version of that question… “Are you sure?”, “Are you really sure?”, “Are you absolutely sure?”

Love and War, sounds like a great name for a novel, doesn’t it?  At the same time, it is a great way to sum up the Bible’s book or letter of 1st John.  If you have read John’s writings you might have noticed that he talks about love.  You might also note he writes of contrasts; light and darkness, assurance and conviction, love and war.    This month, Aaron Brockett, lead minister with Trader’s Point Christian Church in Indianapolis, Indiana will be helping us wrap our hearts and heads around the contrasts of 1st John.    Do you feel it?  Tension, I mean.  It’s all around us and in us.  How about the tension of standing before the Son of God to give answer to the life you have lived.  In today’s lesson the Apostle John is going to break the tension by teaching us how we can have confidence as we approach the judgment seat of Jesus.  So… here’s Aaron with 4 Assurances from 1st John that will help to break the tension and give us hope as we anticipate the day we find ourselves face to face…
