The Business of Living

November 6, 2017

If you’ve had a birthday this year, you’re aging! But no matter how old you are, God doesn’t want you hung up on the fact that you’re another year older. He wants you to get serious about the business of living your days in cooperation with His eternal plan!

In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Psalm 90 to help us let go of our worldly concern of aging and instead focus each day as another opportunity to be a part of God’s work.

Yes, the world is changing and it will continue to change, often in directions that are counter to Christian beliefs. But don’t overlook how in the midst of change the church can stand out all the more as a vibrant and beautiful place of love, truth, and grace. In this message, Pete dissects Hebrews 13 to show us what the church looks like in exile and how to remain steadfast and stand confidently in Christ, no matter the circumstance.

Quite often those who stand with Jesus don’t register high on the popularity meter. But we know that what this world offers us can never compare to all that we’ve been promised in eternity. In this message, Pete Briscoe reads the moving baptism testimony of his daughter who shares how she’d rather be in the out crowd with Jesus than the in crowd without Him. It’s an inspiring message that encourages us to value our chosen place outside the mainstream camp.

Does your Christian life feel like you’re running an uphill cross-country race? We are called to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” But how do we continue the race without growing weary and losing heart? In this message, Pete Briscoe challenges us to deal with hindrances to our faith so that we not only finish the race, but we enjoy it, too.

We all want to be pleasing to God. The question is: do we truly understand what pleases Him? In this message, Pete Briscoe shows us what Scripture says about how to please God, and you might be surprised to learn that it’s not something we can accomplish through our own effort, no matter how hard we try.

Love wins, but only when you choose to receive it. In this message, Pete Briscoe highlights a controversial section in Scripture, Hebrews 10:26-39, that provides a warning for those who deliberately keep on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth. “No sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.” It’s a strong warning for those who’ve turned their back on Christ.

Old Testament Jews strived to obtain three things—holiness, forgiveness, and access to God. Do you live your Christian life trying to acquire these things, not realizing that through Christ you already possess all of this and more? In this message, Pete Briscoe explains what we forfeit when we live like Old Covenant Jews rather than New Covenant believers.

If you’ve ever driven a manual car, you know what it’s like to hit the gas pedal and then suddenly realize that the car is in neutral. Is it possible you’re living life this way, stuck in neutral? Living an unexceptional life with unexceptional relationships. Pete is speaking to the guys in Live Life in Gear, and he candidly shares his personal experiences of being disengaged with life, God, and his wife and kids. He cautions that if we continue to live in this state - bored with our lives and distant from family and friends - we risk our relationships slowly dying from being unattended. And the stakes are high. Rich and meaningful relationships are attainable if we let Christ lead through us. The lessons found in Live Life in Gear are universal and will help anyone who wants to experience life to the fullest.
