Knowing God's Will for My Life, Part 2

December 5, 2018

Do you ever hear people say, “God told me to do that,” and think, did He really “tell” you? You hear others claim they know God’s will for their life, but how do you really know what God wants?

We can look in Scripture and see, generally, what God wants for His followers, but what does He want for each of us individually? Maybe there’s a decision you’re grappling with now—who to marry, which college to attend, or a major career or lifestyle choice. In this message, Pete Briscoe gives clear guidance on how to hear the Holy Spirit and discover God’s best life for you.

Jesus said it was better that He leave earth so the Holy Spirit could come. He was one body amongst the people, but the Spirit would come to live inside of us. The Holy Spirit acts as a Fire that sets our souls ablaze and gives us the power to do things that are beyond our own strength.

Faith means to believe with expectancy, but it also means to rest and trust. When we pray for healing, we’re not always certain of what God’s will is, but we can come before him with an attitude of rest and trust.  In this message Stuart Briscoe teaches from James 5:13-18 to help us understand why prayer for the sick is important, why we should pray, and what we can expect from God in answering our prayers. You’ll come away with a greater understanding about the decisive factors that make prayer work.

Do you believe that Jesus can do miracles in your life? Jesus’ disciple Philip was an analytical, practical kind of guy, the one who would handle the details of the disciples’ travel arrangements. This responsible, systematic personality, however, led him to have a hard time believing in the supernatural power of Jesus. Yet Jesus took the opportunity to give Philip, and us, glimpses of how powerful Jesus really is!  In this message, Pete Briscoe introduces us to Philip and encourages us to avoid Philip’s mistakes and fully embrace Jesus’ supernatural power.

The disciple John was a man surrounded by death. As the last of Jesus’ 12 disciples left alive, he had to face the death of all his friends in some horrible ways. Yet he was a man who truly knew what Life was! Through his writings, we see that John had a firm grasp on what true Life really is and where it is found—in Christ alone.  In this message, Pete Briscoe walks us through some of John’s writings and points us to where eternal, satisfying, intimate, true Life is found.

We all have things we’re passionate about. While we’d like to say that our passions are for noble and selfless things, like helping the poor or feeding the hungry, most likely our passions take shape while we’re stuck sitting in traffic or watching a bad call from the ref in a sporting event or feeling personally affronted by what someone says. Jesus’ disciple James was no exception. He was a man full of misplaced, dangerous passion. But allowing his passion to be led by the Holy Spirit changed James into a man whose passion was dangerous—in a good way!  In this message, Pete Briscoe shares with us some stories from James’ life and guides us in dealing with our passion and the passionate people around us.

About Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Stuart Briscoe uses wit and intellect to target your heart, capture your attention and challenge you to grow! You will find his logic compelling as he brings a fresh, practical perspective to the Scriptures. Born in England, Stuart left a career in banking to enter the ministry full time. He has written more than 50 books, received three honorary doctorates and preached in more than one hundred countries. Since 2000, she and Stuart, who was formerly senior pastor of Elmbrook Church for 30 years, have had the joy of equipping and encouraging believers across the globe in their roles as ministers-at-large for Elmbrook.

Jill has authored more than 40 books including devotionals, study guides, poetry and children's books. Her vivid, relational teaching style touches the emotions and stirs the heart. She serves as Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership, and served on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc., for over 20 years.

Jill and Stuart call suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin their home. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their three children, David, Judy and Peter, and thirteen grandchildren.
