Jesus Cured the Sick, Part 2

September 6, 2019

There are many instances in Scripture where Jesus cured the sick—physically and spiritually. Can we expect that same kind of healing? Why are some people healed while others are not?

These are important questions worthy of study, but another question that is equally important to ask is: why did Jesus perform miracles in the first place? Too often we have an inaccurate understanding of why Jesus heals. We’re so desperate with our self-interests that we miss the point of his healings—the true significance.

In this message by Stuart Briscoe, we learn what Jesus was trying to illustrate with miracle healings and discover the hope we have in overcoming our troubles and ailments.

We’re hungry for spectacular healing in our lives—for God to take away our infirmities in a moment’s work. For 38 years the crippled man lay on his filthy mat near the pool of Bethesda hoping to be healed when the water stirred. Jesus sought him out and asked him, “Do you want to get well?” On the surface, this might seem like an odd question, but maybe Jesus was getting at something richly profound. In this message taught from John 5:1-15, Stuart Briscoe discusses how when Jesus performs a spectacular healing miracle, he heals so much more than just our bodies.

Thankfulness finds its resting place at the feet of Jesus—our comforter, our protector, and our healer. This message is a reminder that Jesus was and always will be in the business of healing people in all areas of life. And even when he hasn’t healed as we hope, we can still trust Him in His sovereignty.

In the first century, many believers were slaves or slave owners. How they conducted themselves in these capacities was vitally important. Our situation is different, but our work habits and relationships are no less significant; half of our waking hours are spent there!

God reaches down into humanity and asks all of us to share His Good News throughout the world. But not all of us feel called to move to a different country to plant churches or live in isolated tribes to create a written language of the native tongue. What does being on mission look like in our individual lives? We don’t have to wonder! In this message, Pete Briscoe teaches from 3 John to show us the beautiful and simple way that each of us can love the unloved, and be on mission to tell others about Jesus.

2 John is a short letter but it packs a powerful message of how the church of Jesus Christ should look—to love everyone we encounter while never shying away from sharing God’s truth. God’s family is called to live in the tension that love and truth create. How do we go about living this way when now more than ever the world views Christians as intolerant and unloving, even to each other? In this message, Pete Briscoe, teaches from 2 John to show us how to walk constantly in love and truth. It’s exactly what this angry and hateful world desperately needs.

Many times there’s a disconnect between how we believe the Christian life should look and how we actually live. What prevents us from seeing true transformation in our lives?  In this message, Pete Briscoe teaches about three scriptural truths that once we learn and are convinced of will dramatically change our lives.

How confident are you in your faith, your salvation, and in your beliefs about God? Do you ever doubt? Doubt is something we often think of as forbidden. It can bring about guilt and shame, and we may even think of ourselves as “less of a Christian” if we struggle with it. However, doubting is more common than you may think, and Scripture tells us where we can turn when we’re grappling with it. In this message, Pete uses 1 John 5:6-13 to outline four truths that eradicate doubt and bring us to a place of confidence in our faith.

Does obedience ever feel like a burden to you? When you come across a command in the Bible do you sometimes feel overwhelmed at the seemingly impossible task of obeying it? In this message, Pete Briscoe takes you to 1 John 5 to share four reasons why walking in obedience isn’t a burden. You’ll learn how it can be a rich experience as you step into what God is inviting you to do.

If you have little children in your life, you may have heard of “teachable moments.” That’s when you take an ordinary occurrence and tie it to a bigger, more important lesson. In this message, Jill shares how Jesus never missed a teachable moment, and we have the opportunity to use them to share Christ.
