Telling the Truth

Stuart and Jill Briscoe

He Comforts Me, Part 1

May 18, 2018

When trials and suffering come, where do we turn? We ought to turn to God, the God of all comfort. Suffering in this life is inevitable. David knew that. He wrote his psalms about that. But he wrote with the knowledge that God’s love brings comfort, encouragement, freshness, and life to those who pant after Him.

In this message, Jill points us to the many resources for encouragement that God has already given us: His Holy Spirit, His word, and His people. God beckons us to bring encouragement to those around us.

When man makes promises, he rarely follows through. God, on the other hand, can make promises the size of eternity, and He always follows through! God promised David that He would give him a throne that would never pass away. God promised to bring a new covenant to His people through David’s line, a covenant that would bring an eternity where there are no broken promises.  In this message, we learn of God’s faithfulness in His grand promises. We can trust His promises because they are based on His unfailing love!

It’s easy for us to question God when He chooses us for a task. We feel unqualified, like God has made a mistake. But God often chooses the unexpected to do His work. David was the definition of unexpected. He was the youngest, the smallest shepherd boy, but he was chosen by God to be king.  In this message, Jill shows us that all of us have been anointed and given the ability to receive a calling and equipping from God.

The driving force behind everything God does is love—His love for you. That might be hard to believe at times, but the truth is that God, in His infinite love, foreknew, predestined, confirmed, called, justified, and glorified you! And the ultimate display of His love is that your life journey will finish at a destination beyond your wildest dreams and vivid imagination—you will finish just like Jesus—glorified and with God in heaven. Why would God orchestrate all of this for you?  In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Romans to help you grasp the depth of His love so you can recognize and rest in it along life’s journey.

Do you find yourself living for the love and approval of others? Are you looking to others to meet your needs and satisfy your desire for acceptance? Maybe you do the same thing with God—trying to please Him by performing and living well. Remaining in this trap of living to gain His approval will only prevent you from truly experiencing God’s outrageous love. In this message, Pete Briscoe shows you how to stop living for God’s love and live in it instead. You’ll learn how to rest in the love He already has for you instead of spending your life chasing after it.

What keeps you from coming to Jesus? Is it your past or your pride? Are you concerned friends and family will outcast or belittle you for believing in Him? Or do you think you’re too far gone for Jesus to accept you? The truth is we’re all a mess! We make bad choices that lead to unwelcomed consequences. And sometimes, we run from Jesus because of our shame and brokenness. Jesus sees beyond your messiness and longs to transform your life. In this message, Pete Briscoe helps you break free from whatever might hinder you from coming to Jesus and being restored by His overwhelming love.

It’s difficult to understand the heavenly love of Jesus. And so we try to live impressively to win His affection. But there was never a moment in time when Jesus saw something in you and thought ... Hey, that’s impressive, I think I’ll love him. The truth is Jesus’ love for you isn’t contingent on your behavior or performance. He has always loved you. Before the creation of time, before the foundation of the world, before you were created—He loved you. In this message, Pete Briscoe teaches from Ephesians chapter 3 where the apostle Paul longs for the truth of God’s love to come alive inside you, so you can experience a depth of love that you never knew was possible.
