The Dove that Can Be Abused

July 14, 2014
When the Holy Spirit comes into our lives, we receive all of Him into all of us. But did you know that we can abuse Him? He is abused when we suppress Him, quench Him, or subdue Him. Limiting Him to only certain areas of our lives is considered abuse...and a sin.

This is the 5th message in Jill's 8-message series "Grace to Go On."

John 1:29-34

In us there is a well of water that continually quenches our thirst. It is the Holy Spirit that flows like a stream in our hearts. When we call on Him, the river overflows and refreshes our souls, enabling us to do God's work without getting burnt out. The woman at the well. This is the 4th message in Jill's 8-message series "Grace to Go On." Isaiah 58:11

In the Scriptures, oil is used as a symbol of joy and gladness. And we as Christians have a little pot of oil in us that will never run dry. The Holy Spirit is the oil in our lamps that keeps us burning, allowing us to be a light in this dark world. This is the 3rd message in Jill's 8-message series "Grace to Go On."

Most people would admit that their understanding of the Holy Spirit is pretty limited. However, if we truly grasped the power He has to transform our Christian lives, we would probably hunger to know more about Him! This is the 2nd message in Jill's 8-message series "Grace to Go On."

Jesus said it was better that He leave earth so the Holy Spirit could come. He was one body amongst the people, but the Spirit would come to live inside of us. The Holy Spirit acts as a Fire that sets our souls ablaze and gives us the power to do things that are beyond our own strength. This is the 1st message in Jill's 8-message series "Grace to Go On." John 14:15-20

Those of us who played organized sports in school may remember a time when the race or game was not going well, and we just wanted to give up. For many of us, it was the shouts from the sidelines that kept us going. We could hear the coach shouting, "Keep going - you can do it!" In the same way the coach keeps the team going, Christ keeps us going and guides us home. We just have to learn to turn everything in our lives over to Him. In this message, Jill explains how we can learn to let God "coach" us and find contentment in every circumstance. Based on Philippians 3 & 4, this is the 3rd message in Jill's 3-part series titled Spiritual Arts.

What people come to mind when thinking of those who have a servant attitude? Missionaries? Pastors? Yourself? Do you think that having a humble attitude is important? The apostle Paul had a servant heart and attitude. He continually gave himself away to benefit those around him. As a result, he was able to bring many people to Christ. We can impact those around us just as Paul did if we learn the spiritual art of humility. In this message, Jill explains how having a self-sacrificing attitude can impact others. Based on Philippians 2, this is the 2nd message in Jill's 3-part series titled Spiritual Arts.

What do you do when you are suffering through a hard time? Many of us sulk, complain, and feel sorry for ourselves. Others put on a strong face, but when they are alone, the fear and sadness take over, and they break down. Much of the apostle Paul's life was spent suffering - most of the time in jail. But unlike many of us, Paul was joyful no matter what his circumstance. This "spiritual art" of contentment was something Paul learned - and it wasn't easy. In this message, Jill uses Paul's life as an example of how we can learn contentment, joy, and peace of mind no matter what we are going through. Based on Philippians 1, this is the 1st message in Jill's 3-part series titled Spiritual Arts.

The fields are ready - people are dry and waiting to hear a message of hope, meaning and purpose of life. The seed, the Word of God, is dynamic, powerful, precious and full of life. God calls those in His kingdom to share this good news. Like a farmer sowing seed, we are to be spiritual farmers generously spreading God's truth. But why is it so hard to share our faith? Is it that we're waiting for perfect weather before risking to go out in the fields? Or are we not seeing the lost the way God does? Are we not aware there's an enemy circling us, seeking to thwart our plans and snatch the seed? With attention-grabbing stories and personal insight, Jill teaches us to focus on being good soil - taking God's truth and with His watering, producing a spiritual harvest for His kingdom.

When you come to familiar Scriptures, do you tend to pass them by? Most of us have heard the 23rd Psalm describing the shepherd's relationship with his sheep. Take time and allow the Lord to give you fresh revelation on these verses as Jill Briscoe shares her heart and perspective on Psalm 23 - one of her favorite passages.

How can we live above the problems of everyday life? Habakkuk tells us how, and it's all about getting God's perspective. There is unspeakable joy in embracing, accepting, and submitting to whatever "burden" God has called each of us to endure. With His help, we can live above it. This is the second message in Jill's two-message series on the spiritual art of leadership. Habakkuk
