February 5, 2020

"Perfect" marriages don't just happen—but they are possible!

In this message, Jill shares wisdom gleaned from her own marriage to show that, like the Proverbs 31 woman, you can become "queen of your husband's heart" and do your part in making your marriage all that that God wants it to be.

Ever feel overwhelmed trying to live up to expectations? We all look for affirmation and appreciation—but from whom? The fields are ready—people are dry and waiting to hear a message of hope, meaning and purpose of life. The seed, the Word of God, is dynamic, powerful, precious and full of life. God calls those in His kingdom to share this good news. Like a farmer sowing seed, we are to be spiritual farmers generously spreading God's truth.  But why is it so hard to share our faith? Is it that we're waiting for perfect weather before risking to go out in the fields? Or are we not seeing the lost the way God does? Are we not aware there's an enemy circling us, seeking to thwart our plans and snatch the seed?  With attention-grabbing stories and personal insight, Jill teaches us to focus on being good soil—taking God's truth and with His watering, producing a spiritual harvest for His kingdom.

Some of the most well-known Bible characters had bad days—just as we do. No matter what your struggle may be today—depression, low self-esteem, bitterness, disappointment, anger, jealousy, weariness, even a lost will to live—there is a person in the Bible who felt those exact same feelings. Jill takes us through this familiar story to reveal the Father's heart.

One of the hardest things in life is facing rejection, especially when it comes from someone we love. We, like Leah, might keep striving, struggling, and manipulating to earn acceptance from our loved one. We may feel alone, but God sees and hears what we endure.  In this message, Jill walks us through Leah's struggle with rejection and shows us the God who saw, heard, and loved Leah through it all.

We all get tired sometimes. And sometimes in our tiredness we get to a point where we, like Elijah, say "I’ve had enough, Lord." Where do we go once we've reached that point? How can we find refreshment and get moving again? In this message, Jill uses Elijah's story to teach us that God alone can refresh us just as He did for Elijah.

What does your daily schedule look like? Is it full of errands and events? Sometimes we become workaholics and worriers, filling our days with too many tasks and constant concerns about things we can't control rather than taking time to focus on the most important thing of all. In this message, Jill uses the example of Martha to show us instead how Jesus would want us to fill our time.

Life can be rough. Bad things happen. It's easy to take those bad things and walk down the road of bitterness where our relationships with friends and family suffer. In this message, Jill tells us how Naomi's experiences made her an empty, bitter woman, but she got back on track with the help of her daughter-in-law Ruth and became a full, better woman.

Ever have those prayers that God doesn't seem to be answering? We all have dreams and longings—sometimes they go unfulfilled. We wonder, "Where is God in my pain? Does He even hear me?" In this message, Jill uses the example of Hannah and her desire for a child to teach us that God does indeed hear us.

Have you tried to carry all of your groceries into the house in one trip so you didn't have to go back out to the car? Your arms are aching, the bags are pinching your fingers, and the food is beginning to slide out. But you keep moving, hoping to get everything into the kitchen before the bags break!  Now imagine that someone in your family came out as you were unloading your bags and offered to carry them so you could sit down to rest. You probably wouldn't turn them down! Well, Jesus has made this offer—He wants to carry our burdens. We just need to say yes.  In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says:  "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

One of the best known passages in the Bible is Psalm 23. It describes the relationship between a shepherd and His flock, in which He guides them through pastures, hills and dark valleys. In every case, the sheep are content because the shepherd is there, offering protection and comfort. We are the sheep in this story!  Jill teaches that no matter what is happening in our lives, good or bad, the only way we can find true contentment—and even joy—in every situation is by trusting in the Lord, our shepherd, who promises to never leave us.
