Is There a Second Chance?

August 31, 2017

Do you have friends and family who have not yet accepted the Lord? Knowing that our time on earth could end at any moment, are you worried about them spending eternity in the outer darkness called hell?

Jill insists that if hell is a real existence and there’s a possibility that our unbelieving loved ones may end up there, it is a crucial matter to discuss. She dives into this controversial topic: Is there a second chance to accept Christ after death?

What is hell? How could a loving God create such a horrible place and then be willing to send His creation there? Jill agrees that these are normal thoughts to have, but she uses a number of passages to change our perspective on the matter. The greatest fall came when God’s highest angel wanted to take His place and therefore was thrown out of heaven; hell was created as this angel’s new home. Hell was never created by God for man, but if we choose to reject Him, this dreadful place becomes our eternal home. This is message includes Jill’s poem “The Wish Wand.”

There is a peace that comes with knowing you can trust in someone’s promise. Being sure about our eternity in heaven is no exception. Jill speaks on John 14 where Jesus promises all believers that He has gone to prepare a place for us and he will return for us once again. His death on the cross made it possible for Him to follow through on this promise.

Gale force winds can come at any time and in any season. Sometimes storm clouds warn of their imminent arrival, but other times you wake up surprised by the strong gusts that have pushed in under the cover of darkness.  But what about when the storms aren’t outside your window, but inside your life? Where should you turn? One place to find the answer is in the book of Isaiah, one of Jill’s favorite books in the Bible. Jill teaches about the character of God by sharing how He cared for the Israelites and Isaiah, but she also shares practical stories from her many years of ministry to illustrate God’s promise to shelter us when things get difficult.

If you have little children in your life, you may have heard of “teachable moments.” That’s when you take an ordinary occurrence and tie it to a bigger, more important lesson. In this message, Jill shares how Jesus never missed a teachable moment, and we have the opportunity to use them to share Christ.

Have you lost your joy? It can be hard when life is swirling around you and beating you down, but true joy is found in praising God for who He is and what He’s doing, even when you can’t see it. “‘To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?’ says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name.” Isaiah 40:25-26

In many of the remaining monarchies, the kings and queens are much beloved by their people, but they have very little real power. Sadly, many believers relate to Jesus the same way. They proclaim Jesus to be King of Kings and the Lord of their lives, but they make all the decisions! When we let Christ truly reign, amazing things happen.

Have you ever witnessed someone growing in their faith and then suddenly there is a horrible spiritual attack? Jesus warned there is an enemy of the harvest—crows that are bent on snatching the seeds scattered in the fields before strong roots can take hold. We may not like to think about it, but Satan is eager to discourage and snatch away believers. In this message, Jill Briscoe encourages all the saints to get in the fight, disciple those around them, and help people grow strong roots in their faith.

It’s easy to see when a garden needs watering. The plant leaves begin to wilt, the ground becomes dry, and cracks appear. And if the plants aren’t tended to, they’re at risk of withering and dying. It’s the same with people who need Jesus. In this message, Jill Briscoe helps us understand what’s at risk and asks us to dedicate ourselves to impacting people in our sphere of influence.
