A Night to Remember

June 11, 2018

God will use you, no matter how broken you are, if you are obedient. This is the lesson we can learn from the book of Esther.

Esther started as a simple Jewish girl. But God asked her to be obedient, and she ended up risking her life to go before the king and make a request that her people be saved. She went with the knowledge that she would most likely be killed. But Esther had faith and was obedient.

Most of us like to put our roots down and feel secure. We don't like change. We don't like being pushed into situations where we'll risk anything. But sometimes God calls us to do this! God calls us to be believers, like Esther and Mordecai, who care enough about the souls of others that we risk our own comfort, and sometimes our own lives, in order to fight for the lives of those around us. Jill teaches us how to be believers who care enough to dare—believers with courage to do the right thing even when we're afraid!

Upholding the "Christian" label in a world like ours is vulnerable—it’s risky. If we live rightly in our wrong world, sooner or later we will find ourselves in conflict or threatened. When Esther's people, the Jews, were threatened, she had to choose whether or not she was going to stand up for them against the persecution of Haman. Would she keep her identity as a Jew a secret and save herself? Or would she stick her neck out and try to save the Jews? Jill encourages us to be like Esther, and to be unashamed of the Gospel message in our witness.

Have you experienced a darkening sky in your life? When you find yourself there, do you shine brighter for it, or flicker out? Esther's life seemed to be a downward spiral of difficulties. But she continued to shine brightly for God in the unbelieving kingdom of which she was now queen. As Jill takes you through the amazing story of Esther, a simple Jewish girl made queen, you will see that you, too, can be empowered by God to keep shining his light, even in an ever darkening sky.

Sometimes God's will isn't what we would have picked out for ourselves. It isn't what we want. And it's difficult to accept. Esther's life didn't turn out how she wanted it to. She found herself separated from her family and married to the unbelieving King of Persia. Through these trials, God made Esther into a Supernova, shining even more brightly in the hardships. But before she could get there, she had to die to her own dreams and her own plan. Are you willing to do the same?

If God called you to a difficult task in a difficult place, would you shine light into that place? Would you, like Esther, be a star for God? Esther is a great example of someone who faced seemingly impossible circumstances. She was forced to marry a very powerful, very worldly man: the King of Persia. While not many of us can relate to such a circumstance as Esther had, we can learn from her faith and obedience. You are right in center stage of where God wants you to be and what God wants you to do in your life. Will you be obedient?

Does anyone ever ask, "How are you?" and you reply, "Well, under the circumstances...." The problem is that's exactly where we are living—under the circumstances! How do we rise above the adversity and sing a song of praise? From the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel, Jill Briscoe shows us how Hannah, under very difficult circumstances, found the secret.

Is your heart asking, "How long, O Lord"? Who or what are you waiting for? A job? A friend to be a friend? Someone to love you or for you to love back? Are you waiting for a break—or a baby? A child to say they're sorry, reconciliation, or an important prayer to be answered? Maybe you're waiting for the bullying or betrayal to stop—or lying, hating, injustice, corruption, or hurt. Or perhaps you are in a crisis of faith that needs to be resolved. In this message from Habakkuk, Jill Briscoe offers encouragement for the tough times in life.

I believe in Jesus, but for so long I've been spiritually dry. I made a mistake. A bad mistake! And since then, I've been living in a desert of regrets in a dry and barren land… thirsty, thirsty, thirsty. It's been a long time since I've experienced a sense of the supernatural. I feel isolated, marginalized, full of self-doubt—a failure! If this sounds like you, Jill Briscoe offers help in her message based on the life of Moses.

We often ask, "Where is God? I look for Him, but I do not see Him. I listen for Him, but I do not hear Him. It is dark—so very dark. Not pitch black perhaps, but my life is lived in shadows. How can I find God in the shadows?" In this message, Jill Briscoe looks at the life of Esther to uncover answers to those questions.

Gale force winds can come at any time and in any season. Sometimes storm clouds warn of their imminent arrival, but other times you wake up surprised by the strong gusts that have pushed in under the cover of darkness.  But what about when the storms aren't outside your window, but inside your life? Where should you turn? One place to find the answer is in the book of Isaiah, one of Jill's favorite books in the Bible. Jill teaches about the character of God by sharing how He cared for the Israelites and Isaiah, but she also shares practical stories from her many years of ministry to illustrate God's promise to shelter us when things get difficult.
