Today we focus our attention on a love story that features Ruth and Boaz. This love story is exactly what you would expect from a romance inspired by the Spirit of God. We see how the Lord worked through Boaz in order to meet Ruth exactly where she was. Likewise, God also moved Boaz to be attracted to Ruth, also a true blessing. You may not be looking for a wife or a husband right now, but in Ruth Chapter 2 we can get insight on how God loves us.

The Scripture tells us that bitterness is actually a manifestation of anger toward God. A root of bitterness can defile ourselves and those around us, whom we love. So how do we escape this trap that Satan uses against us? Thankfully we need look no further than the Scriptures. Sometimes things don't turn out the way we expect. In our story today Naomi lost, from her perspective, everything. Her husband and sons suddenly died. What an enormous loss! In situations like this, questions tend to surface. LIke Why did this happen? Where is God? How do I go on? These are all valid though not easily answered. In fact, we may never get the answer this side of eternity. What we do see in our lesson however is that God is always with us in our suffering and trials.

We live in a world where widows, the fatherless, and other such destitute people are at a distinct disadvantage. Why is that so? Could it be that those who have no form of defense will simply be taken advantage of and left out like yesterday's trash? That may be the case in our current fallen world, but God has a completely different perspective. We continue in the first chapter of Ruth today with a bit of an examination of how truly desperate the situation is with Ruth and her daughter-in-law.
