Led By the Spirit

So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark. - 2 Samuel 6:3-4

David had a new cart built for the Ark of the Covenant and took it to Abinadab’s house, to bring it to Jerusalem. Abinadab’s two sons, Uzzah and Ahio were going to drive the cart to Jerusalem, so they loaded up the Ark of the Covenant and departed.

It seemed like David had come up with a great plan to move the Ark of the Covenant. It was logical to use a cart to take the Ark from Abinadab’s house, since it was on a hill. The cart would keep the Ark of the Covenant safe.

The only problem with David’s plan was that it was not God’s plan, and he knew better. In Exodus 25:12-15, the Lord told the children of Israel how the Ark was to be moved. It was to be carried on two poles, put through four rings on the sides and carried by Levites of the family of Kohath (Numbers 4:15). This was God’s plan, but David did not follow it, so he will have problems very soon.

I realize in my own life, when I do things according to God’s plans, they work out perfectly. When I try to do God’s work in my own way, it turns into chaos. It is a disaster. We cannot do the things of God according to the flesh. It must be led by the Spirit.

Inside the will of God there is no failure.
Outside the will of God there is no success.
