Fellowship with God

And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the Lord of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. - 2 Samuel 6:2

David had gathered his choice men, thirty thousand of them, to go with him to bring up the Ark of God. This was a great mission of David and his people. He was going to establish Jerusalem as the center of worship for the children of Israel. David wanted to get the people to focus on the Lord.

It is important to understand, the Ark of God refers to the Ark of the Covenant, which God had instructed Moses to build. It was a box or chest, made of wood and covered with gold. The top of the Ark was known as the Mercy Seat and it had two Cherubim on it.

The Ark of the Covenant represented the presence of the Lord among the people. Inside, the Ark contained the two tablets with the Ten Commandments, the jar of manna and the rod of Aaron, which the Lord caused to bud in recognition of Aaron’s leadership. These were great treasures for Israel.

Today, we know the church is not a building. The church is made up of the people of God. The Holy Spirit dwells within us. The presence of God is among us. Jesus said: “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20).

While God is with us no matter where we are, He established the church for His people to worship, be taught His Word and have fellowship.

Fellowship with Christians is for the sake of
fellowship with God.
