Victory in the Lord

“And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” And David did so, as the Lord commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer. - 2 Samuel 5:24-25

The Lord strategized and gave David the battle plan before he met the Philistines again. He even gave David the signal for when he should advance on the Philistine army, but notice, when David and his men advanced on the Philistines, God would go out before them and strike the camp of the Philistines.

Wow! God gave David the battle plan, but he did not have to worry if it was a good plan or not, because the Lord was going to do everything. He was going to defeat the Philistines and give David victory.

Notice how many times the Lord had spoken in this chapter and the number of times David had prayed to the Lord. Because David was trusting in the Lord completely, God was there for him. He saw the faithfulness of David and He answered whenever David inquired. David’s heart and life was right before the Lord.

Look at your own lives. Are you winning or losing the battles? Go back through 2 Samuel 5 and take an inventory of your life. See if you are truly in the will of God. Are you fighting the battles according to God’s plan or your plan? If you are feeding upon God’s Word and waiting upon Him to fill you with the Holy Spirit, then you will have victory in the Lord.

God wants us to be victors, not victims; to grow, not grovel; to soar, not sink; to overcome, not to be overwhelmed.
