Excellent Management
Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon.Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built. And the one who sounded the trumpet was beside me. - >Nehemiah 4:17-18
Nehemiah was an excellent manager and closely supervised the work. He made sure of His strategy; everyone was armed but half of the people watched and protected the city against attack, while the other half worked. This way they were aware of everything that was going on around them in case the enemy attacked. They did not all go to sleep at the same time, they took turns, so the work could get the work accomplished.
Notice, Nehemiah was not just commanding and demanding; he was a leader who became a part of the workforce. He knew what he was doing––so neat.
Joseph is another good example of a leader, who also had excellent management skills. When his brothers sold him as a slave into Egypt, Potiphar made Joseph his house manager:
Then he [Potiphar] made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake… Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand… (Genesis 39:4-6).
However, Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce Joseph and falsely accused him of rape! Joseph was placed in jail, but even there the jailer put him over the other prisoners. Finally, Joseph interpreted a dream for Pharaoh. Then the Lord exalted him next to the Pharaoh in power (Genesis 41:25-32, 39-41). Joseph administrated Egypt’s food supplies during seven years of plenty to survive a seven year famine and, in the end, saved his family.
