The Man of the Hour

Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.”
1 Samuel 17:28

When David arrived at the camp of Israel, Eliab, his oldest brother, became angry towards him. Basically, Eliab said, “David, you are far too young. Go back and take care of father’s dumb sheep.” Eliab accused his youngest brother of having an insolent heart, when, in reality, David had a heart after God’s own heart. He was zealous for God. Eliab had totally misjudged David.

Despite Eliab’s strong objections, David was in the right place at the right time. Through God’s divine providence and guidance, the Lord’s plan was unfolding. Eliab and his brothers in Saul’s camp would be shown whom God had chosen to work through––David. God would prove Himself strong on David’s behalf and deliver Israel from the Philistines. God was going to use a young teenager who was completely in tune with Him.  Even though he was just a young man, David had a willing attitude––he was available and ready to be used by God.

David would volunteer to come against the giant because God had already put it into his heart. Remember the real reason David became upset. God’s name was being mocked by Goliath––Israel had suffered shame. God would show the whole world that David was His man––the man of the hour. He was going to use David’s life tremendously.

Are you ready to be used by the Lord? Are you a man or woman of the hour? You could be like a David or Esther! God can use your life––for such a time as this!

Blessed is the church that recognizes the hand of the Lord upon those whom He has prepared to lead.
