Overstepping Your Boundaries

Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. So Saul said, “Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.” And he offered the burnt offering.
1 Samuel 13:8-9

King Saul waited for the prophet Samuel to come and offer a sacrifice to God at the set time arranged. Samuel seemed delayed, and under pressure and looking at the circumstances of war, Saul became impatient. Saul stepped into the office of the priest and went ahead and offered a sacrifice of consecration to the Lord. Saul was King of Israel, but he overstepped his boundaries in this one action. He intruded into an office God had not called him to. Saul’s disobedience would cost him his future; he would lose his kingship––his whole future was about to change.

A major problem within ministries in a church is when people overstep God’s set boundaries for their lives. When they think they can do a better job than somebody else, they cross over into a position they were not called to do. It may be because they became jealous.  However, if they do not listen to the Lord, like Saul they will be completely disqualified.

Do not interfere with God’s work. Never get in the way of God. Let people alone. Stay out of it––keep your hands off other people’s positions and ministries. God will accomplish what He wants to do––do not fight against God––you will not win. Seriously, do not be stubborn and try to be the captain of your own ship, with no accountability or integrity. Stop thinking you are better than anyone else, or you will find yourself on the shelf. God will remove you.

Are you trying to step into a position God has not called you to? Instead, listen to the Lord and be content wherever he has placed you to serve Him.

As you commit your life to the Lord, He begins to plant His desires in your heart, then guides you according to His plan.
