Unsuspecting Deception

And David sent home to Tamar, saying, “Now go to your brother Amnon’s house, and prepare food for him.”So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was lying down. Then she took flour and kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.  And she took the pan and placed them out before him, but he refused to eat. Then Amnon said, “Have everyone go out from me.” And they all went out from him. - 2 Samuel 13:7-9

Tamar, in obedience to her father, went to the house of Amnon. Tamar was a beautiful woman, inside and out. We see her pure motives and kindness as she prepares food for him, yet, Amnon refused to eat. Then he asked her to send everyone away. Amnon had planned for them to be alone, Tamar had become vulnerable. You can definitely see his heart and intentions.  Notice again, there was an obvious warning; something was out of the ordinary.

As Christians, we need to be aware of Satan’s deceptive plans to entrap us. He will use people who are not submitted to God. King David knew about entrapment: The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set traps for me… (Psalm 140:5).

Learn to recognize deceptive traps from the enemy. Pray for wisdom so you can avoid or escape them. Evil plans can be evaded and God can cause your enemies to be caught in their own traps! David reflected on God’s deliverance from his enemy’s schemes when he wrote Psalm 57:6: They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down; they have dug a pit before me; into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah.

Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.”
