Mighty God

…But there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it.And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
1 Samuel 17:50-51

David came against Goliath the giant in the name of Jehovah––God. He was the man of the hour! The Lord knew David’s heart. He was able to work through David because he was humble and trusted in the Lord. God showed Himself mighty on David’s behalf and gave him the victory.  This day, all the surrounding nations knew the God of Israel was victorious.

God desires to be known among all the people of the earth. When the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt, God sent Moses to them as their deliverer. After their Exodus, they were pursued by the Pharaoh and his chariots. God would deliver. He told Moses: “Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen”(Exodus 14:10-31).

When Joshua went into the Promised Land, God dried up the River Jordan so God’s people walked on dry ground. This is exactly what God did when His people crossed the Red Sea. Moses led God’s people across on dry ground. God used this miracle for two main reasons: “that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever” (Joshua 4:24).

Notice, Moses, Joshua and David served the Mighty God. Jesus Christ’s names are found in Isaiah 9:6. Among them is the title Mighty God:

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the  government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We also serve the Mighty God. May your life be a testimony of His might to all those around you who do not know Him.

Great is our Lord, and mighty in power….
~Psalm 147:5~
