A Word to the Privileged
So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform of wood which they had made for the purpose; and beside him, at his right hand, stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; and at his left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam. - Nehemiah 8:4

Ezra, on a platform of wood, stood and shared the Scriptures. (This is the first time in the Bible that a platform was mentioned). On his right hand were six priests and on his left hand were another seven priests, thirteen men in total. The men and women were so blessed to be taught the Scriptures.

Imagine those who are privileged to work in a church or other Christian establishments all day long. How God has blessed them! They are can freely talk about the Lord with their co-workers. There may be pictures with Scriptures placed on the walls and worship music playing in the background. Those who work in a Christian environment, even though they have their personal struggles, are protected from the evil things of this world.

Remember this is not something everyone gets to experience. There are many people in our congregation who have to work daily in a secular environment. They do not have the same privileges or blessings. Although God is with them, they cannot talk openly about the Lord. They may be subjected to listen to foul language, worldly music and maybe surrounded by uncaring people.

Often, these poor people come into the church, weeping and crying, asking for counsel and prayer. The Word of God ministers and comforts people who are so broken. The Lord gives to them His precious promises found in His Word to give them hope.

Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life.
~Psalm 119:49-50~
