Our Daily Priorities
And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for one–fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God. - >Nehemiah 9:3
Nehemiah comprehended the greatness of God in his life. He stood in awe with the people. Psalms 33:8 tells us: Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. Nehemiah knew the right way to come before the Lord’s presence. It was through fasting, prayer and confession of their sins.
On this particular day, the people continued to read the Book of the Law. They had prioritized their time; one fourth of their day way given to prayer, as they confessed their sins. Another fourth of the day was given over to worship. The whole congregation stood before the Lord singing, as if they were having their own worship conference––amazing!
In comparison, today’s church services will only have about 30 minutes of worship before the teaching of God’s Word––think about that! During that time, we should bring ourselves before the Lord to worship and confess our sins to Him. 1 John 1:9 tells us:If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
In my personal life, I take the time to fast and daily pray. Why? I desire to sit before God to make sure the closet of my life is clean before the Lord.
What about your daily priorities? How much time do you spend on yourself? I often give people this interesting challenge: write down on a sheet of paper, every half hour, what you are spending your time doing. Then, as you look over what you have written, you will know what your greatest priorities are in life.
