Eternal Separation from God
“He said to me again, ‘Please stand over me and kill me, for anguish has come upon me, but my life still remains in me.’ So I stood over him and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. And I took the crown that was on his head and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.” - 2 Samuel 1:9-10
The Amalekite came to David and confessed he had ended Saul’s life. After Saul was dead, he took the crown off his head and the bracelet off his arm to bring to David as proof of Saul’s death. This was his confession; he was not afraid to come against God’s anointed.
Notice, Saul’s disobedience to the Lord had come back, not just to hurt him but to take his life. In 1 Samuel 15, God sent Saul to wipe out the Amalekites. Samuel told him to …utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them (1 Samuel 15:3), but Saul did not do it. He spared King Agag and took the spoils. Because of this, the Spirit of God departed from Saul and God anointed David the new king.
In the end, Saul brought death upon himself, because he had not obeyed the Lord and did not utterly destroy the Amalekites. Instead, the Amalekites survived and utterly destroyed him, taking his life.
As we look at Saul’s life and ultimately his death, we see the end result of disobedience to God is death. It begins with a spiritual death in life, as the Holy Spirit departs from you, and ends with eternal death physically, as you enter into eternity separated from God forever. The thing we have to remember is we make the choice—we decide on heaven or hell.
Damned sinners in hell shall not be allowed their light, being cast into utter darkness.
