The Desires of Your Heart

So when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him, “There he is, the man of whom I spoke to you. This one shall reign over My people.” Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, “Please tell me, where is the seer’s house?”  Samuel answered Saul and said, “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with me today; and tomorrow I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart.”
1 Samuel 9:17-19

The next day, Saul drew near to the gates of the city, the main place where the judges came to make judgments. As soon as Samuel saw Saul, God identified him. He completely pinpointed Saul out to Samuel because they had never met. Saul was the one Samuel was to anoint as Israel’s king. God is not the author of confusion—everything He does is perfect––complete––it just flows. Everything that was happening was going according to His perfect plans.

When Saul and his servant arrived, the first person Saul met was Samuel. The prophet Samuel invited Saul to eat; afterwards, he would tell Saul all that was in his heart. Saul could not understand why the prophet was treating him so nicely. Samuel, as a leader, was in tune with God’s voice and knew what was on Saul’s heart.

Notice, like God knew what was in Saul’s heart; He knows whatever concerns or desires you may have in your heart. God already knows all that is in your heart. He can also speak to other people about your needs. He will lay them on their heart. They will become sensitive to your concerns, desires or needs. Those who have a close relationship with the Lord will know when you need prayer and minister to you.

Our duty is found in the revealed will of God in the Scriptures. Our trust must be in the sovereign will of God, as he works in the ordinary circumstances of our daily lives for our good and for his glory.
