Eating at the Kings Table

So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat  bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should  look upon such a dead dog as I?

 - 2 Samuel 9:7-8

Isn’t that amazing! Continually!  Imagine continually sitting and eating at the kings table! He could come for breakfast, lunch and dinner until the day he died. That is the grace of God. David’s heart had been softened to do what was right.

Not only that but he gave him all the land back, not just his fathers but his grandfathers as well. This land did not belong to David; he gave him back what belonged to Saul and his family. Imagine, Mephibosheth had nothing but David made him a millionaire just like that!

When I think about David, he knew what it was like to sit at the table in fellowship with God, even in the worst of times. He wrote in Psalm 23:5: You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

God has shown us both grace and kindness, through Jesus Christ and we are no longer His enemies.  Are you enjoying the privilege of intimate fellowship and communion with God as you sit at your Kings table to read His word each day for the rest of your life?

Too many are willing to sit at God’s table, but not work in His fields.
