Prostrate Before the King

So the king said to him, “Where is he?” And Ziba said to the king, “Indeed he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo Debar.” Then King David sent and brought him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo Debar. Now when Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, had come to David, he fell on his face and prostrated himself. Then David said Mephibosheth?’ And he answered, “Here is your servant!” - 2 Samuel 9:4-6

Mephibosheth was raised by Machir and protected by him. Lo Debar is a town on the other side of the Jordan River; where the tribes of Manasseh, Reuben and Gad settled. God is going to bring Mephibosheth out to David. He would have been worried that David might kill him, but no, David showed him kindness instead.

When he came to David, notice he fell on his face prostrate. When the king said his name, he answered, “Here is your servant!” That is true humility.

What about us when we come before the King of Kings? Every morning when we get out of bed, we should drop to our knees and lay prostrate with our nose to the ground in humility. We need to be ready to hear what our King has to say to us every day, through His Word. When you wake up will your first response to God be, “Here is your servant”?

What better can we do than prostrate fall before Him reverent  beg with tears watering the ground?
