Turned Into Another Man

“After that you shall come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying. Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.”

1 Samuel 10:5-6

It is thought that the prophet Samuel had students who served in priestly, Levitical roles in the tabernacle and in worship. They went to a place known as the “School of the Prophets.” These men were not worldly intellectuals. Here they would have learned about God’s laws as taught from the Book of Moses, and as prophets, they had the gift of prophecy––knowledge given to them by the Lord.

God was bringing about this whole situation for His purposes. The Lord was going to do a new work in Saul’s life––he would actually prophesy with them––and God would change the heart of Saul. He would become completely another man––different. Saul would have a big change in his life. Some people think Saul was never truly born again, but after reading the Scriptures, I believe you cannot say that; Saul was given a promise of a new life.

The disciple Peter loved the Lord, but many times he operated in his own strength. He vowed to remain with the Lord even to death, but when Jesus was arrested, Peter fled. In sorrow and deep repentance, Peter wept. The Lord restored Peter’s life and commissioned him into the ministry. Only when Peter was broken, humbled, and filled with God’s Holy Spirit during Pentecost, did he become another man.

In order to be a leader in ministry, you have to become another man; you cannot be the same man you used to be. There has to be a spiritual change in your life.

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me [Jesus] in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
~Acts 1:8~
