Leaders Remain Among the People

So the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul and told the news in the hearing of the people. And all the people lifted up their voices and wept. Now there was Saul, coming behind the herd from the field; and Saul said, “What troubles the people, that they weep?” And they told him the words of the men of Jabesh.
1 Samuel 11:3-5

When Nahash came against Jabesh the people wept, and it became known to King Saul. Notice where Saul was working, he was in a field with the herds, among the people. As King of Israel, he had not separated himself from the people, he had not distance himself from them.  Saul, at this point, did not think of himself above the people. He remained approachable and humble. Saul had no body guards, and the people felt good about their king.

Sometimes leaders who are placed in a position of importance become proud and unapproachable. They separate themselves; all of a sudden they think they are above the people, when they should remain humble and among the common people. They forget when they were nothing.

Leaders who have become distant from the people and live a different standard of life forget who got them there in the first place. If it was not for God allowing them to serve Him in that position, where would they be today? They would be a regular person, nobody would even know them.

I have never forgotten where I came from––Baldwin Park––we had nothing. I know God has placed me where I am today, I want the Lord to keep moving in my life, and I will keep following Him.

Never get comfortable with everything God has blessed you with and never forget where God has taken you from. Seriously, we can easily forget who has promoted us. Can you imagine the blessing each of us has in serving God with all of our hearts?

God often goes to the gutter to find the recipient for His grace. He lifts him out, washes him and transforms him making him into a child of God fit for His kingdom––that is God’s grace.
