Spiritual People

“And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor.” - 2 Samuel 6:22

David’s wife, Michal, accused David of acting improperly before the people of Israel, but specifically before the maidservants of Israel. What Michal considered undignified David considered humility. David humbled himself before the Lord and danced in an ephod, which was considered servant’s clothing.

In her bitterness, Michal held David in contempt, but the maidservants of Israel held him in honor. They saw him humble himself before the Lord and they followed his example. They saw a godly man, who was a servant to the Lord. They held him in honor, because he was humble before the Lord. They understood what David was doing, but Michal was unable to see the truth, because she was unhappy in her circumstances.

I think God used this experience in David’s life to show us there will be people in each one of our lives who will misjudge us; they may even misjudge us for the things we are doing for the Lord. They are usually people who are not spiritual people. They are carnal people who do not recognize or understand the things of the Lord, so they judge according to the flesh and not the spirit.

Not only does He want us to understand people may judge us unfairly, He wants us to think before we judge others unfairly. When we find ourselves judging someone for their words or actions, we need to bring it before the Lord and allow Him to handle it.

The carnal mind sees God in nothing, not even in spiritual things. The spiritual mind sees Him in everything…
