God’s Heart Revealed

“So let Your name be magnified forever, saying, ‘The Lord of hosts is the God over Israel.’ And let the house of Your servant David be established before You. For You, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray this prayer to You.” - 2 Samuel 7:26-27

When the prophet Nathan came to David, he listened to everything he had to say, because he knew the words were not his own. Nathan was speaking for the Lord. He was revealing God’s promise to David. Knowing Nathan was a prophet of the Lord, David had great respect for what he said, because it would be a great sin against the Lord to say, “Thus says the Lord…,” if God had not spoken.

David knew Nathan had revealed the heart of God to him, so he turned back to the Lord and prayed to Him from his heart. He knew everything had to start in prayer. God revealed His promise to David, and David immediately turned to the Lord in prayer.

Although we do not have prophets today, we have His Word and we have prayer. God speaks to each one of us through His Word. He sometimes speaks to us through a Bible study, as the pastor is teaching from the pulpit. We have to have open hearts to hear from the Lord, just as David did.

When we open our hearts to God, He will reveal His heart to us and we can enter into fellowship with Him through prayer.

God will always reveal His will to one who is willing to do it.
