The Greatness of God

“And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Lord God; and You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come. Is this the manner of man, O Lord God?” - 2 Samuel 7:19

When David thought about the promise God made to him and his house, he was blown away. He could not believe the Lord was establishing his house forever. He sat before the Lord in great humility and had to ask God why He would do something so incredible for him.

Look what David said, “It was a small thing in God’s sight.” David saw the greatness of God. Although it was a small thing for God to establish David’s house forever for David it was huge. It was an unbelievable promise, because he was just a servant of the Lord.

This is so amazing. David was a shepherd boy. He was the least in his father’s family, as the youngest son, and yet God raised him up to be the king of Israel. Still, God had even greater plans. He would make sure someone from David’s line would be on the throne forever. Look at the faithfulness of the Lord.

Like David, I am always amazed at how the Lord has blessed my life and used me in ways I could never have imagined. I am blown away when I look back at where I have come from and where God has brought me, and the doors He continues to open. He is so faithful and so full of grace and mercy for me. It is the same for every person who walks close to the Lord. When you seek Him and His will, submitting your life to Him, you will be blown away, just like me—just like David.

If our view of God is different from or smaller than the Bible’s, we shall be astray in all our thinking and living.
