Guidance from God

that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.” - 2 Samuel 7:2

We see the humble heart of David in this verse. He was not comfortable living in a beautiful, cedar house while the Ark of the Covenant was in a tent made of curtains. David had been on the run for many years and lived in caves in the wilderness, but now he was living in a cedar house, which was an expensive new home.

Knowing he was living in such a grand home, while the Ark of God was in a tent created a great burden in David’s heart. He believed he had to do something to make things right with the Lord. He believed this burden came from the Lord.

Many times, we think we have a burden from the Lord. Sometimes we want to do something to bless God, but he has not really led us to do it. That was what happened to David. He thought he could build God a house but God had different plans for David.

Have you ever made plans for your life and believed they were from the Lord, but they were not. They were from your own desires. Even though you thought they would bring honor and glory to God, they were not His plans for you.

We have to realize, God has a plan for each one of us, and He does not need our assistance. He blesses us by allowing us to be a part of His great work. Stay humble and allow God to guide and direct your life.

Always try the suggestions or impressions that you may at any time feel by the unerring rule of God’s most holy Word.
