Bring God Your First Fruits

And we made ordinances to bring the firstfruits of our ground and the firstfruits of all fruit of all trees, year by year, to the house of the Lord; to bring the firstborn of our sons and our cattle, as it is written in the Law, and the firstborn of our herds and our flocks, to the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God…. - Nehemiah 10:35-36

Through this revival, God brought about true change among His people. They had separated themselves from the other nations and became submissive to His Word. They also parted themselves from mixed marriages. As they kept the Sabbath observances, they willingly gave to God from their first fruits.  None of the people stole from God what belonged to Him (Malachi 3:10).

Paul the Apostle instructed the churches in Galatia and Corinth, and this applies to all of us, that we should give tithes on the first day of the week:

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper… (1Corinthians 16:1-2).

Imagine, if God’s people were obedient in their giving to the Lord, then many churches, television programs and radio stations would not have to become beggars for support. You have to give to God what belongs to Him. We should give God our best, not our cast-offs––things we no longer want or anything that does not have real value.

Remember, the more your take for yourself, the less you will have.  No wonder we are in debt and lacking in provisions!  Our offerings to God should be from our best––we should give to God first.

Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with
the firstfruits of all your increase…
~Proverbs 3:9~
