The gospel brings liberty to a culture that has long been bound in tradition. This new liberty is sometimes a problem. Jewish customs were a big deal in Jerusalem, and some new believers there insisted that converts to the Christian faith keep observing Jewish laws. The conflict was sharp, and Paul had to settle an argument that put the outreach of the gospel at risk.
