Remember the fairy tale? A lady, hoping for a positive response, says "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" She wanted to hear what we want to hear: that we are really OK, if not beautiful people. So we look for mirrors on our walls to show us what we want to see. The result: self-delusion, and one answer as to why good people do bad things.
