In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. God sees believers as part of Christ’s body, which is the church. In life’s race, Christians don’t and shouldn’t run alone. Because of the Holy Spirit, we share the actual life of God Himself through our vital union with Jesus Christ. He is the vine and we are the branches.

Only God has the power needed to raise sinners from the dead and give them new life. It’s a myth that humanity can contribute to salvation, and if believed, that lie has eternal consequences. Spiritual life comes only from God.

The Bible says that only God’s righteousness opens heaven’s doors. That’s why we’re deceived if we believe that “God helps those who help themselves.” We need the righteousness that comes from God alone.

In one sense it’s true: “God helps those who help themselves.” Hard work makes a difference. But when it comes to salvation, that saying is a lie. We can’t add anything to the work that’s already been done to secure our eternal future.
