October 10, 2017

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving our neighbors as ourselves, fulfills the law and pleases our Creator. Obeying this commandment means obeying all Ten Commandments God wrote on tablets of stone to give to Moses so long ago.

The word Decalogue literally means “ten words.” Written by God on tablets of stone, the Ten Commandments defined proper behavior. On a higher plane, believers follow an eleventh. In this message we learn how Jesus summed up the Ten Commandments.

The sin nobody sees can light fires of lasting conflict. Covetousness, longing for what others have, is a recipe for ongoing discontent. And God’s will for us is to be content. The tenth commandment makes it clear: we are not to covet.

There’s something in all of us that wants what someone else has. But no matter how many possessions we acquire, we can’t take them with us after we die. And this should change our perspective today. The sin of coveting is what God addresses in the last of the Ten Commandments.

Among seven things God hates, the writer of Proverbs lists lying twice. That’s pretty serious for a sin we all commit. Winning in the race of life requires telling the truth. In this message we find out why lying is so prevalent, and so destructive.

For some, telling a “white lie” is okay. But it’s not okay with God. Believers need to tell the truth if they want to win in the race of life. Lying violates prime directive number nine in the Bible, and overcoming that lying tongue is our goal.

To be victorious in life’s race, we need to lose the baggage of guilt we carry from thefts, both large and small. That’s how far we’ve come in our study of the eighth commandment. In this message we learn some final lessons on stealing.
September 28, 2017
Stealing is on the rise as people say, “what’s yours is mine.” It’s more than burglary. People steal from their employers with hardly a second thought. We forget that stealing any kind of private property violates one of the Ten Commandments.

It’s dangerous to get too close to a fire. And it’s also dangerous to get close to a possible sexual sin. That’s why the seventh commandment teaches us to avoid all forms of such sin. Obedience to God’s command results in a life free of entanglements that can stop us in our tracks.
