Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. As part of a classic dysfunctional family, Absalom rebelled against his father David. He went his own way, and ended up losing his life. The story is in the Bible for us to read and heed its warnings. In this message we find crucial lessons for all parents of prodigal sons.

Why is it that some kids want to leave home and experience what the world has to offer? Often they end up in ruins, wishing they’d never left. In this message we look at one prodigal son who left, and never returned. His name was Absalom.

Believers are told to “give thanks in everything.” Some wonder, “Does this mean I’m to be thankful for calamity?” In this message, we’ll sharpen our focus on why we can, and must, be thankful. We’ll discover why and how we can rejoice no matter the circumstances.

The Bible tells us “in everything give thanks.” Does this mean being thankful for illness or loss? Or being grateful for having no job? In this message, we learn why the Bible’s command to be thankful makes sense even when we don’t understand our circumstances.

In the Garden of Eden, the serpent beguiled Eve. Likewise, Satanic substitutes for God often look very good. However, although popular, the teachings of the occult are the doctrines of demons. As believers, it’s vital for us to understand what the Bible calls “sound doctrine.”

Christians are awash in a sea of pleasures, having time for everything but God. Many waste their time in a myriad of ways, and the options only keep increasing. In this message all of us receive a challenge to get our priorities straight.

A commercial once said: “You only go around once in life. Grab all the gusto you can.” This advice, of course, is foolish. In this message, we hear a challenge to a pleasure-mad culture that’s infecting the church: a challenge to reach for the real pleasures God offers.

God designed sex for a covenant marriage relationship, not for a succession of one-night stands. In this message we confront the allure of sexual affairs, which poison our souls and undermine our ability to make commitments. How can we be free from this sin?

Extramarital sex and divorce are choices that can ruin life for all concerned. Too many people, even Christians, ignore the warnings and pay a high price in the long run. The sexual revolution has a very dark side, and we’d better count the cost.
