Jesus, The Gift of Freedom, Part 1 of 2 (Gifts Jesus Brought to Us)

December 20, 2017

Jesus said, “Everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. If the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed.” That’s great news! Freedom is more than not being in jail. Freedom is living without the shackles of sin and its penalty.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. “Greater love hath no man, than a man lay down his life for his friends.” That’s what Jesus said, and that’s what He did. There is no greater love than the love of God through His Son, and that’s a wonderful Christmas gift.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” The life He offers to those who believe is an eternal one. This Christmas, let’s be thankful for the life our Savior promises, a life that transcends and overcomes our eventual death on earth.

At Christmas we’d rather not think about the end of life. But Jesus gives eternal life to those who believe in Him. This means that death is not the end. Instead, death will give way to victory as we enter into the real life we were meant to live.

The lights of Christmas come down in January. But the light Jesus brings into the hearts of believers can burn brighter every day. Sin can quickly douse that light, so we must be diligent to walk in the paths of righteousness.

The Christmas season is officially upon us. But many don’t understand the significance of the celebration. It’s sad that so much darkness permeates our culture, but that’s why we look to Jesus as our source of light.

God’s desire is that our giving be cheerful, not driven by a sense that we’re in trouble if we don’t give. He wants our hearts first, and only then our open pocketbooks. Let’s learn about giving from Paul’s admonition to the church at Corinth.

Farmers know it’s really pretty simple: no seeds, no plants. No plants, no vegetables. No vegetables, no harvest. They know all about the laws of sowing and reaping, laws God set in motion a long time ago. In this message we’ll explore what Paul wrote about this to the church at Corinth.

Some might see giving generously to the church as a waste. Jesus told a parable exploding this myth once and for all. The bottom line: money given to transform the lives of others bears a thousand-percent return-on-investment.

Christians have bank accounts on earth, but also, accounts in heaven. They lay up treasures “where moth and rust do not corrupt.” In this message we’ll learn why the long-term view is best: investments in things eternal bear a return we cannot even imagine.

Have you ever considered that God is observing our giving? He sees every area of our lives. Jesus was in the Temple courtyard, watching as the rich made sure the crowds saw them give. Then, He looked intently at a poor widow who dropped her last two mites in the treasury.
