The Eclipse Of God
Just as the moon obscures the sun’s light during an eclipse, today’s radical secularism has obscured the light of God. But God’s light still shines—and He is calling us to shine His light in our growing darkness. Is God more tolerant than He used to be? Pastor Lutzer shows how God is both a God of wrath as well as grace; that He is both merciful and just, and both a redeemer and a judge. Deepen your love for our unchangeable God of the Bible and be empowered to proclaim the light of truth in a culture of darkness. Jonah ran from God’s command to preach in Nineveh. But he could not outrun God, who appointed some “persuaders” to change Jonah’s mind: a great fish, a plant, a worm, and a scorching east wind.

Jonah was told by God to preach to people he did not like. His attempt to flee brought him face to face with the God of second chances, the God whose will would ultimately be done.

God gave a command to a prophet, and the prophet took an amazing journey to avoid that obligation. Jonah was told to preach to the people of Nineveh, but he refused. We can learn a lot by considering God’s response to Jonah’s obstinance.

King David made an impulsive choice regarding Bathsheba, and a pregnancy resulted. Then, he orchestrated a cover-up, in which her husband was killed to hide the sin. For David, and for us, cover-ups don’t work. The outcome involved severe temporal judgment.
January 20, 2016
King David committed adultery with the wife of one of his military officers. To hide his role in the pregnancy which followed, David decided that the officer would be intentionally left to die in battle. Sin was leading to more sin.
January 19, 2016
A mistake in the moral arena has long-term consequences. King David sinned with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite. A story he hoped would stay private became very public, leading to serious trouble.
