The Tri-Unity Of God, Part 1 of 4 (The Mysteries Of God)

May 9, 2019

God is incomprehensible. He is so vast that our tiny minds cannot fathom His immensity. Theologians have wrestled with the nature of God for centuries, trying to sort out how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit relate to each other. But it’s not a problem to be solved; it’s a mystery at which we marvel.

The Vanishing Power Of Death
Death no longer has dominion over the one who follows Christ. When the tomb was found empty, death lost its power. In “The Vanishing Power of Death,” Pastor Lutzer considers the evidence for the resurrection of Christ and its impact on the disciples. From Mary weeping at the tomb, to Thomas' doubting, to Christ's counseling session with two discouraged disciples on the road to Emmaus, Pastor Lutzer shows readers that the experiences of the disciples are poignant and relevant for believers today. To ask why God does what He does is to go where angels fear to tread. Paul wrote, “How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out.” God’s purposes are unable to be thwarted. We must learn to accept His sovereignty and obey His commands.

Though many scheme their way to power in politics, it is actually God who sets up the leaders of nations. History has been called “His story,” and rightly so. God’s decrees determine and structure history, even the rising and falling of governments.

Long before any of us were born, the life-giving God set His creation in motion. These creative actions were grounded in His eternal decisions. Theologians call these decisions “decrees,” non-negotiable orders God laid down—which govern creation, redemption, and history.

The complexity of the human body is awe-inspiring. We take for granted that we each have some 34 trillion cells, each one packed with volumes of information. As our amazing Creator, God knows us completely.

Psalm 139 tells us that God knows everything. Nothing is hidden from His gaze, even the children who inhabit their mothers’ wombs. In this Psalm, we rejoice that God cared for us even before we were born.

As kids, we would play “hide and seek.” God does not need to play such games. By virtue of His perfect knowledge and His all-present nature, He knows our location and even our thoughts. He has an exhaustive knowledge of all things, both actual and potential.

God knows that believers cannot fully comprehend His eternality. The eternal God, according to His grace, watches over us during our brief spans of life. Psalm 90 tells about His provision, helping us persevere until we see Him face to face.

In Psalm 90, Moses wrote, “From everlasting to everlasting you are God.” He compares God’s eternality to our short spans of life, reminding us to “number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Psalm 90 is an explosion of praise to the God Who always was and always will be. Moses wrote, “From everlasting to everlasting you are God.” The eternal Lord created everything: time, matter, and space. And He fills and surpasses the created universe.

The Bible tells us about God and His purposes. But not everything is crystal clear. There are mysteries we will not understand in this life. Even though God is mysterious, we seek to know Him according to His self-revelation in the Scriptures.
