As Christians, we live in a fallen world that is drawing us away from God and His design and plan for our lives. Rather than give into the ways of the world, we must armor ourselves as Scripture instructs us to do, protect ourselves appropriately and start each day strengthened by the Word to fight back against the schemes of the devil.

The Bible is like a letter written to us by God, and we need to treat it as such a valuable letter that we read over and over to learn more about Him. None of it will make sense unless we ask Him to reveal Himself to us through the Scripture, and when He does we can help others learn about Him as well.

While it is important to study Scripture, we need to remember that God doesn’t want to use us because of all the great knowledge we can obtain but rather so that He gets the glory through us. If you are humble and willing to do whatever He asks, you are qualified to do His work.

God wants to use us to do His work, but we get so busy doing our own thing and getting exhausted. When we obey God’s prompting through the Holy Spirit, we do the things that He gives us the strength to do, and we are also brought into times of rest.

We all have certain dates in our lives that are great dates to remember as well as difficult dates. Rather than allowing Satan to rule over those difficult dates, we must remember the Spirit that God has given us – of power, love and a sound mind – and reclaim those dates to give them to the Lord.

Jesus’ ministry was hands on, touching and healing all sorts of people. God extends His hands to us, willing to work through the dirty mess we’ve made in our lives. When people come into our lives that God calls us to minister to, we need to be willing to get messy and be hands on.

Leaven, or yeast, can be used for two different teaching analogies. It can represent evil in forms of added religion, complaining, disputing or disobedience where a little in one person can affect the whole Church. On the other hand, we as Christians are supposed to be leaven in the world, infecting the world in a good way for the Kingdom of God.

God has made the way through His Son for us to be in right relationship with Him. When we, as His creation, are far from Him, He is missing us and calling us back to Himself. Since our decision to follow Him has an effect on everyone around us, we must make sure that we have established a relationship with Him to begin with and are continuing to follow Him everyday.

God’s kindness leads us to a godly sorrow about our sin that should always follow with repentance. When we truly repent, we don’t go back to doing the same thing but rather we make a change in our lives with God’s help and strength. Once change is made we can experience fellowship with God.

The Old Testament people had to make continual sacrifices for their sins, but the guilt of their sin never went away. When Jesus came and died on the cross, His sacrifice was the final sacrifice needed to not only offer us forgiveness but to clear us of the guilt that our sin brings forever.

The story of Peter sharing the Gospel with Cornelius, a gentile, is an example to us that God will sometimes stretch us to break traditions for His purpose of reaching others. We must make sure to be listening to God and not going off and doing things on our own. The people He calls us to reach and the places He calls us to go may stretch us, but everyone is in need of Him, even ourselves.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
