Blood Test

February 14, 2013
The Old Testament gives us a picture of the detailed Tabernacle that God had His people build to worship Him. It even detailed the intricacies of the clothing of the priests. While all of this was beautiful and important, the purpose of all of it was to slaughter an animal and spill its blood to cover the sins of all the people. This kind of sacrifice would cover them physically and would cover their sins, but it was not until the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that anyone has been given the covering of a clean conscience. We can try to clean ourselves up before approaching God, but we better not ever approach Him without being washed in the blood of Christ because it is only through His blood that we can be made clean.

Childbirth is a great example of pain that ends in joy. We will have times in our lives where there will be sorrow and weeping, but God promises that He will turn those times into dancing because of the goodness that will come from it. We are not promised an exemption from the pains and suffering of this world, but we are promised hope within which we can grieve during those times. The hope comes only from Christ who redeems all things.

The Bible tells us that there is nothing that we can do that will have any value if it is not motivated by love. This kind of the love that the Bible talks about is unlike any other. It is unconditional, kind, it suffers long, and is above all other kinds of love. This is the kind of love that only Jesus can exemplify through us because we will never be able to match this standard on our own. Yet this is the kind of love that God calls us to practice with everyone around us, and so we must allow Jesus to be in every aspect of our lives so that He can live this out through us in every area.

Sexual immorality is a common thing in the culture we live in. Not only is it something that single people struggle with, but married people struggle with it as well. God calls us to a life of holiness, which means we must abstain from any kind of sexual immorality. Jesus says that even if we look a person with lust it is as if we have already committed adultery in our hearts with them. We all know the right thing to do, but we all mess up. God freely offers grace and mercy when we fail, but He continues to call us to a higher standard of true love.

There is a big difference between living a moral life and living a godly life. There are all kinds of sins in the world, sins that we all face at one time or another. Choosing to not give into those sins because of moral pride sets us up for failure because we can never resist temptation completely on our own. Realizing the obedient lifestyle that God has designed for us and the purpose He has for us allows us to face temptation grounded on a foundation of Scripture. Life will have its hardships, but there will be a reward in heaven for obeying God amidst all difficult circumstances.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
