A church needs to be where the Spirit of the Lord is moving. Totally dependent on God, and not resting on its reputation. When the Spirit is no longer the church's source of power, the church will become sickly, covering themselves up in the white robes of an empty religion.

A church will be like those who attend it. Churches are supposed to be alive and vibrant, as opposed to the dark forces that surround it. But, when Jesus is no longer the counselor, and no longer consulted, the church will not survive.

When God examines our Christianity, will He find us diligently applying the Bible to our everyday life. Will He find us not stuck in religion, but knowing, and trusting Him with our eternity, never looking to another.

When our Christianity is vibrant and healthy, there will be obvious signs of life. We will be a church of good works, rooted in love and willing to attend to the needs of the people. Our faith will have strong moral and spiritual convictions, with a total reliance on Christ, as we patiently wait for His return.

When we’re surrounded by compromise, we can stay true to our convictions even in a church that is trying hard to not look, sound or feel like a church. Jesus is always ready to forgive, when a church receives His correction, and returns to the principles of the Bible.

When we’re surrounded by compromise, there’s always the temptation to mix the world with the things of God. But, as true believers, God knows both our conviction to remain separated, and our courage to keep our faith pure.

When we’re surrounded by compromise, God knows where we live, and He sees our personal commitment of faith. We must remember that we can still be a church that is bold for Jesus, even in the face of gross evil.

As a true Christ follower, eternity is an ever present reality for us. We see Jesus as our Shepherd, and we’re not afraid of any of the things we’re to suffer. When we’re faithful to the end, Jesus will give us the crown of life.

In a hostile environment, the Christian can still be encouraged. Jesus is with us even unto the end of the world. When times of difficulty surround us, we can be confident that even unto death, we will be present with the Lord.

Jack Hibbs is the founder and senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Southern California. Jack and his wife, Lisa, began Calvary Chapel Chino Hills as a home Bible study fellowship/church plant from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in 1990.

Today, the church ministers weekly to over 14 thousand people on campus and to millions worldwide through the Real LIfe Television and Radio broadcast. Weekly, the Real Life broadcast can be heard on over 500 stations in the United States, including SiriusXM satellite radio.
