My Dad on Death
By David Chadwick

Years ago, I asked my dad what he thought death would be like. His answer was intriguing.

Dad had me imagine a baby in a womb – comfortable and secure. Soon he would be born. What would the baby feel? Uncertainty? Insecurity? Fear?

Then dad invited me to imagine what the baby would think if he knew that there were two people excitedly awaiting his arrival, with four hands ready to hold and protect him.

Dad told me that he thought heaven would be like that for followers of Jesus. Though death seems fearful and foggy, Christians should imagine a loving Lord waiting for them with open arms.

Jesus said that he is the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in him will never die (John 11:25).

Jesus is waiting for his children in heaven – like parents waiting for their child to be born.

“Why ever fear death?” Dad asked me.

Why indeed!
