Dead to Sin; Alive to God

October 4, 2020

Romans 6:11 - We are alive unto God in the reign and realm of God! We were dead in sin, but now have been raised together with Christ into an entirely new sphere. What does it mean that we are alive to God? In this sermon on Romans 6:11, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones will teach you about the entirely new relationship you have with God if you are a Christian. “The most terrible thing about a life of sin is that you are not open to the blessings of God.” Common graces are not the real blessings of God; they pale in comparison to these spiritual promises. To be alive unto God means to be part of His purpose. We are united to Christ because we are now in Him and members of His body. Learn the result of being in God and the importance of the word “never”. The same Spirit that comes upon us was in Christ. God has begun this work in you, and therefore He will complete this work. Be dead to sin and alive to Christ. How does this help us to fight sin? Realize the great assurance and confidence this Gospel provides. It is the joy of the Lord that is your strength. Rest on the sure and perfect Word of God.

About Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899–1981) has been described as "a great pillar of the 20th century Evangelical Church". Born in Wales, and educated in London, he was a brilliant student who embarked upon a short, but successful, career as a medical doctor at the famous St Bartholemew's Hospital. However, the call of Gospel ministry was so strong that he left medicine in order to become minister of a mission hall in Port Talbot, South Wales. Eventually he was called to Westminster Chapel in London, where thousands flocked to hear his "full-blooded" Gospel preaching, described by one hearer as "logic on fire". With some 1600 of his sermons recorded and digitally restored, this has left a legacy which is now available for the blessing of another generation of Christians around the world — "Though being dead he still speaks".
