Light on the Hill

Taking our Eyes off ourselves and Putting them on the Lord Part 1

April 20, 2020

Would this be described as a difficult time for you?  Maybe you’ve even been fighting and arguing with God about it?

The Psalmist we’ll meet up with today on Light on the Hill was certainly overwhelmed, and at rock bottom in every way imaginable.  Often at those times, our focus is on ourselves and the circumstances surrounding us.  But pastor James Kaddis will show us the importance of lifting our eyes up to God.

Have you ever had someone question the goodness of God by saying something like, “If God is so good, why is the world so bad?  And why do the wicked prosper, and good people suffer?”  We'll talk about that, today on Light on the Hill. We’ll spend most of our time together in Psalm 73.

We continue through the Psalms with pastor James Kaddis today.  We left off in chapter 71.  David was no stranger to trouble and heartache in his life.  But he showed no signs of letting up in his trust and praise of the Lord.  Through the storm he depended on God to protect him.  Those are wonderful footsteps to follow in, as we too might be faced with similar situations.

When Jesus said at the cross, It is Finished, He meant what He said.  In essence He was communicating that the work of salvation is completed… nothing else is needed.  Pastor James Kaddis will focus on these three marvelous words, and how they impact our lives today.

Maybe you can look back on a time in your life where you pleaded for God to do something, and do it now!  You were confused that He didn’t answer your prayer the way you had hoped, and on your timetable.  But years down the line, you see a lot clearer, and come to realize God’s timing is so much better than ours.  One of the lessons in front of us today on Light on the Hill is, God has perfect timing.

Let’s face it we don’t have a very good track record.  We’ve failed and sinned more times than we can count. But God isn’t that way.  He has a perfect track record and is always faithful. It’s a good idea to rehearse that from time to time, which is what we’ll do today on Light on the Hill.
