Praising God with Everything in Me Part 2

June 11, 2020

It was back in late February that we began studying the Psalms here on Light on the Hill, and the plan is to wrap up the book today.  And we do so on a very fitting triumphant note of praise!  As you’ll see there are many different ways to praise!

References: Psalms 146

Pastor James Kaddis is nearing the end of his lengthy study of the Psalms.  In fact we’ll be wrapping it up next time.  Today we find ourselves in Psalms 146 and 147.  The Psalms end on a note of praise to God, and isn’t that fitting?   God is so worthy of that!

You’ve heard the saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going?”  Today on Light on the Hill we’ll see when the going gets tough for the Psalmist, he goes to the Lord!  And that’s the right place to turn as we’re about to see.  This is a difficult season of life for many right now!  And some are overwhelmed and have hit rock bottom.   If that’s you, be sure to listen as a sea of encouragement from God’s Word is found in Psalms 142 through 144.

We’re going through the Psalms right now, chapter by chapter.  And today we’ll have a look at Psalm 141, and a prayer of David.

Ever met someone that gives off the vibe that they are a know-it-all?  It can sure be annoying!  But there is someone who really does know everything!  Not only that, He sees all, He’s available to you, and merciful on top of it all!  Today on Light on the Hill pastor James Kaddis is going to reveal some real qualities about God that are sure to make your jaw drop... just as it did for the Psalmist.

I probably don’t have to convince you that we’re all sinners and deserving of death and eternal judgment.  Think of where we’d be if God gave us all what we deserve!  Thankfully He doesn’t do that if we place our faith in Christ.  That’s what mercy is all about, and God has a never-ending supply.  We’re about to join a celebration of God’s enduring mercy in Psalms 136-140!

It’s not hard to see the body of Christ is made up of different personalities, differing beliefs, convictions and personal preferences.  Yet we are still called to be united in Christ!  But what does true unity look like? That’ll be answered in today’s study of the Psalms.

Titus 3:5 says, “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.”  It points to the fact that salvation and new birth is a gift from God, not achieved by us, but received.  It’s God’s righteousness that we look to, made available to us by the death of Jesus on the cross .  And that’s emphasized in Psalm 132, which is where we’re going today on Light on the Hill with pastor James Kaddis.

The fear of the Lord is oftentimes a neglected and misunderstood topic in today’s church, however, you’ll find it heavily emphasized in God’s Word.  But what exactly is it, and how do we walk in it?  Today on Light on the Hill we’ll learn how to walk in the fear of the Lord, with humility and with great expectation.

As hard as everything seems to be right now, is fear and discouragement a reality in your life?  Pastor James Kaddis believes as we reflect on what God has done in the past, and consider what He can do in the present, you can’t help but be encouraged.  That’s what we’ll be doing today on Light on the Hill through a study of Psalms 126-128.

Pastor James Kaddis will highlight Psalms 120-125.  These are songs of ascents, which were sung by Hebrew pilgrims as they made their way up to Jerusalem.  And as you’ll see in a moment, they communicate a great deal to us, encouraging us to call upon the name of the Lord, trust in and seek Him!
