Coronavirus and Bible Prophecy Part 1

May 11, 2020

Not long ago, pastor James Kaddis and Don Stewart had a sit- down conversation about the Coronavirus Pandemic, and how what we’re seeing unfold before our eyes connects to Bible Prophecy.  I’m sure you’d agree, in the unpredictable and confusing times we live in, we need truth and direction for our lives.  The Bible has just that!

Psalm 105 outlines some of Israel’s history... from Abraham on to the entrance into the Promised Land.  Today, we’ll look at this Psalm in detail, and reflect on some of the wonderful works of the Lord in our own lives.

Would you say you’re desperate, confused, overwhelmed, or lonely today?  Many are, in the world as we know it. The Psalmist we’re about to meet would say yes to all of those descriptions.  Today on Light on the Hill we turn to Psalm 102, and the nation of Israel is experiencing the chastening of God, a time of national exile, and enemies surround them.  It’s during this time of desperation that the Psalmist pours out his heart in prayer to God.

Have you noticed as we’ve been studying the Psalms together here on Light on the Hill, just how applicable it is to what we’re going through right now in the world?  And I think you’ll walk away from our study of Psalms 101 and 102 with the same feeling.  It contains a prayer from someone who was afflicted and overwhelmed.

The Psalms have long been turned to by saints throughout the ages for encouragement to praise and thank our Lord for His righteousness, His goodness to us, and for who He is. And as we’ll learn today, you don’t need to be a skilled musician to praise and glorify God.  You can even do it through the gifts and talents the Lord has given you.

While many of those living in the world today quickly embrace evil and run from God, the Christian is to respond differently. We are to love God and hate evil!  Today on Light on the Hill we’ll see that there are incredible results when we love God and hate evil, which should serve as a wonderful motivation for us today.

When your boss does something unfair in your eyes, or your spouse says something hurtful, you might be tempted to retaliate or seek vengeance.  But pastor James will show us through Psalm 94, it’s best to leave it in God’s hands.  Maybe that’s just what you need to hear today, as you’ve been struggling in this area?  Let’s see today how the Psalms can encourage us to go God’s way instead of our own.

Most of us were trained by our parents to say thank-you when a person does something kind to us, and that’s a good practice many of us have carried into adulthood.  However, when it comes to our relationship with God, oftentimes we fail to say thanks and praise God, and yet He is most worthy of receiving of it.  So today on Light on the Hill we’ll be encouraged to do that as we take a look at Psalm 92... a Psalm that is full of praise and thanksgiving to God.

There’s no debating the fact that we live in a dangerous and crazy world!  From viruses that have people on edge, to mass shootings.  But the Christian has a safe place to run to in the midst of the chaos.  Today on Light on the Hill, we turn to a Psalm that is really helpful for these days of uncertainty and danger.

When we think about the Psalms, we usually identify them with King David. He did write a significant portion of the Psalms, but not all of them. The author of Psalm ninety is another man you’re no doubt familiar with, Moses. It’s not only the oldest Psalm, but those of you who are into science will surely appreciate what it has to say.  Join us there today.

Today we’ll again open our Bibles to the book of Psalms.  And in Psalm 86 we find an individual crying out for mercy.  That’s something we all need to do.  So let’s be encouraged to follow David’s lead here as we look at his prayer with pastor James Kaddis.
