A follower of Christ is not someone who follows Christ as long as that does not stop them from following something else. Do you consider yourself as primarily dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus? Is your primary identity His?

To be set free from sin is to be declared righteous by God through faith in Jesus. It is too easy for Christians to understate the danger of sin because we underemphasize the majesty of God's grace.

For all those who trust in Christ, their relationship to God is established and secure. God will persevere with them as they persevere with Him. Because Christians are justified by faith, they can be assured that nothing can separate them from the love of God.

The glory of God is not most seen in creation or in Jesus' amazing miracles. It is most seen in Jesus' resurrection and in us being raised in new life in him. So a Christian is an emblem of the very glory of God.

The Jewish Christian listening to Paul was saying, "What about Moses? What about the law?" Paul replies that the law is good and true, but it was not intended to do what you think. It was not there to set you apart as righteous, but to show you your unrighteousness.

People don't go around saying, "I'm living under the reign of sin." That's not how people compute their experience; it's not obvious to them. Paul is saying that God has a tool for making it obvious, and that tool is the law.

Paul says the most important thing you need to know about anyone is whether they are in Adam or in Christ. We are not black people or white people or brown people -- any racist view of people is ruled out.
